The only change Drew cared about today was getting his diaper changed. He doesn’t care about politics, world events, empty political rhetoric, taxes, war, peace, liberal, conservative, Obama, Bush, Congress, or parades or anything except eating, diaper changes and seeing mommy and daddy. It’s refreshing to see really. Maybe he’s got it more figured out than us. Simplicity and Love.

In honor of the approaching Presidential Inauguration, here I am back in 2001 standing on the Presidential Inauguration platform. It’s not too often you get to experience being in a place that so few people get to be in, to stand in a place of such history. I was able to see a lot of the behind the scenes things. I walked the halls of congress, saw some offices of some very power people, even got cleared out of a hallway for the Vice Presidential entourage. ‘Cousin Bob’ was able to hook me up with this. He is in dignitary protection (secret service for congress). He’s guarded all the big names in the congress and senate, families of the President and Vice President and even President Bush himself. Very cool.

You’ve seen all the “Week End Wrap Up” on other blogs, so I’ve decided to do a work week wrap up (5 days to wrap up as opposed to 2).
- Was in Training for 3 days this week on project management stuff
- I like doing research and engineering much better
- Had my Afro Cuban drumming group on tuesday night. My mentor used to tour with Earth, Wind and Fire in the 70’s.
- Drew smiled a lot this week….best part of my week
- He’s started to sleep through the night. yes!
- All our shows are back on this week…and they are all 2 hours shows! We have like 10 hours of DVR’d shows to watch
- Stinkin cold out!
- My research colleague, an engineering professor at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ (on the Hudson, across from Manhatten) was talking about “unstable mechanical processes” and asked his class if they knew of any airplanes that are inherently unstable and need continuous process control to fly. At that moment, one of the students asked if he was referring to the plane landing in the Hudson River outside the classroom window. Is that crazy or what??

Besides my current job working for the US Army, being a dad to Drew, and a husband to Jenn, there is supposedly another ‘Best Job in the World’ out there. This is an amazingly creative idea by the Aussies to boost tourism in the islands of the Queensland region, which is the tropical part of the country up near the Great Barrier Reef. They are offering this job for 6 months with a salary of $100,000. Considering all the free advertising they are getting around the world right now, I think the idea has already worked. Any of you going to send in a video application?

Drew has something going on with this girl. She’s very cute and very aggressive as you can see. (Not sure what happened to the audio.)

I promised myself several months ago that I wouldn’t be one of those people that would talk about their kids poo to everyone and tell them every detail about everything. Well, the other night Drew had a very interesting diaper situation going on. My friend Andy stopped by shortly after the doo doo diaper and I found myself asking if he wanted to see it. I was very sincere. I really wanted him to see this. He politely declined as any normal person would. In that moment I realized I had become ‘one of those people’.
It is kind of funny though, because we kept the special diaper and brought it to the doctors office the next day. It reminded me of this classic Scrubs “Musical” episode:

Why do babies cry at the doctor’s office? I think I figured it out mathematically. Consider how little a newborn is (about 21 inches long) and how big an average sized doctor is, about 5ft 10 inches tall. Next time you are sitting on a cold table in one of the medical gowns waiting for the doctor to come in, let see how much you start crying when a 19 ft 5 in giant comes in and starts poking at you and sticking things in you.
